Houston Toy Museum

Today, we had a great adventure this afternoon, finally visiting the Houston Toy Museum!

19th Street in our neighborhood is always a fun place to be. Shopping, and good food and coffee (shoutout to Boomtown, our favorite place for veg quiche, milk and a cold brew)

I’ve explored all of the antique shops, many of the boutiques and some of the restaurants (but I always pick Torchy’s for a Mr. Pink & torchitini, why change a winning hand?!)

But the Toy Museum was one place that had been on my list for a while and I just hadn’t made it to.

The museum is not an interactive one, and it is not necessarily targeted towards kids.

But I will say, for the attention span of a 2 year old (and her mom) it was perfect.

The first floor is where the counter and shop are, and where the museum starts, but most of the exhibits are on the second floor.

There were exhibits organized by era/decade and by the type of toy – a LOT of action figures, Barbies, and American Girl Dolls.

The horse drawn carriage though!!
Golf Barbie, who knew?
Just one of several displays of action figures
Clearly a passenger on a United Airlines flight loool
There were also toys for playing with, which she enjoyed

I forgot to mention that the downstairs area behind the shop features a lot of Star Wars toys – and there are more of those upstairs too.

We spent about 15 or 20 minutes looking at everything, then she played with some toys in an open area in the back, while I posed in front of a wall of Beenie Baby toys:

12 year old me was losing her MIND!!!
This is the first thing you see coming through the front and back towards the stairs. Lego replica of downtown Houston!

We did stop in the gift shop on the way out and I got her a slinky which almost immediately got stuck in her hair, so that went away for now!

After that we walked around a bit, it had been a while for her so I doubt she remembered the funky things along the way. She really liked the Elvis statue that is a permanent fixture in front of the Venus Hair salon!

Here are some photos from 19th Street, we went into one shop and had fun looking around!

I maybe should have bought this pillow because I relate to it so much!
Fun walking down 19th St.

Here’s a link to the museum if you’re interested! I’m so glad we finally stopped in 🙂
