I’m typing this out as Glen is driving us back to Houston from the Corpus Christi Campout that the local congregation hosts each year.

This was our first time going, but I believe they’ve been camping for about 10 years now.

Lake Corpus Christi Sate Park is about 3 hours from our home, and with a couple of stops, we arrived around 9:30 on Friday night. A number of people had already gone to bed, but there were still people up, so we were able to catch up with our friends and meet some new people.
The sky was clear and we could see all kinds of stars – pictures from my phone wouldn’t do justice, so I didn’t bother to try and get a photo, but it was a gorgeous night sky.
On the Sabbath we had coffee and breakfast, and then went on a walk.

We didn’t know this ahead of time, but the park is very popular with bird watchers, and there is a trail with a bird viewing area. Here’s the link to the field guide for bird watching if you’re interested: Bird field checklist

We saw a number of Green Jay birds and Cardinals – the former was very exciting since we’d never seen one before, or even heard of it. They are a beautiful bright green, with a black and blue head/neck.
Green Jays are corvids – part of the crow family, so they can also be quite loud!

We also visited the refectory, a beautiful structure build in the mid 1930’s. There was a small office with old pictures, some cool animal skulls, and air conditioning, which was most welcome!

After our walk, we had lunch, and then there was a Bible study followed by a group dinner. Everyone brought a camp chair (even Sutton) for yummy food and fellowship. Dinner began at 4pm and we didn’t head back to our campsite until about 7:30.

We saw other animals besides birds, including squirrels, deer and rabbits…I heard coyotes in the night and found raccoon prints on our table in the morning after forgetting to put away a bowl of pasta – oops!
This was Sutton’s second time camping, the first time she was about 7 months old I think! A pretty different experience now that she’s 2, and a fun one.
Hope you enjoy a few more pictures below ☺️
